The goal of Individualized Bio-nutrition is to address the underlying causes of illness, focusing on the person and not just the diagnosis. The approach addresses the whole person, not just a set of symptoms, and involves understanding the origins to resolve complex conditions. Unlike what we often experience with the rushed pace of standardized healthcare, I find it essential to spend time with my clients, both children and adults alike, listening to their histories, their stories, and looking at the interactions among genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that can influence health and illness. I consider these interactions as well as other internal and external factors that may have led to their condition and focus on respecting and responding to individual patient needs, preferences and values, ensuring these guide all recommendations made. I use nutrition, therapeutic diets, lab testing when available plus combinations of botanical medicines, supplements, and detoxification support to balance biochemistry and support the journey back to health.
Why do we need this approach?
Often times, prescribed treatments that aim to treat the surface problem or symptom fail to provide a real solution, since the true underlying causes are not addressed. In addition, the unique genetic makeup of each individual or factors such as environmental exposures to toxins, and other aspects of today’s lifestyle that have a direct influence on the rise in chronic disease in modern Western society, are often not taken into consideration, nor are the impact of nutrition/diet and exercise in such conditions.
Meanwhile, the number of children with autism/ASD, as well as people suffering from complex, chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer, mental illnesses, and autoimmune disorders like rheumatoid arthritis, is steadily rising. A growing body of research shows that autism/ASD is actually a whole body condition that involves immune dysregulation, altered mitochondrial function, gastrointestinal imbalance and more, and Individualized Bio-Nutrition can address these findings. Like with ASD, I and other practitioners have found that the growing list of chronic inflammatory conditions mentioned above also responds to the biomedical approach and can support health for many.
